This Week Just Gone

sulli-v-mont

They say a week is a long time in football and my word it is.  Saturday was always going to be tough game at Abbotsfield Park against last years premiers and it surely was.  It is never an acceptable excuse to be beaten and say the problem is we have so many injuries so I won’t but if we look at the fact we had 12 senior players on the sidelines it really puts our efforts in perspective. The senior game started at a cracker pace and there were some great skills shown by both teams with the Tigers 17 points in arrears at the first break.  Things were looking pretty positive and we were kicking to the town end in the second quarter.  Then disappointment set in as we were outrun and outplayed in most areas making the half time gap 64 points.  Bring on the third quarter (known to be our worst most weeks) and with two players on the injured list we rallied and whilst the gap was large we were making an impact by running hard and backing ourselves.  We actually outscored Claremont by ten points in this quarter.  In the final term our players showed more grit and we matched our rivals at every turn both teams scoring two goals and three behinds for the quarter.  Our teams have come a long way in the last two years and now we are showing a will to win and some determination to get back in to games after failure.  Saturday demonstrated that we are on the right path and we all look forward to continuous improvement.

The Reserves were a different kettle of fish this week having pushed more players to the seniors we were desperately short of players and Tony Rosendale (coach) was not even sligfhtly upset with the outcome and was impressed with some of the efforts. We hope to see this group back on the winners list real soon.
