Pembroke Park – Sorell Wrapup
Saturday had it all, some of the worst weather I have ever encountered at a football game, some sunshine and two glorious wins. It has been a long time since both teams have both won but what a sensational day it was.
The seconds started in atrocious conditions and the ball moved from one wing to the other and rarely ventured into either forward fifty. At Three Quarter Time Hobart had kicked the solitary goal for the game so far. Three quarter time saw a drop in the wind and rain and this was when our side took a grip on the game showing considerable skills to run out winners by 14 points in a ‘high-scoring affair’ 3.6.24 to 1.4.10. Matthew Collis kicking the 3 gaols for Hobart. Best players M Collis, J Young, J Butterworth, B Apted, W Perry and A Holzinger
The senior game was a tightly fought affair with some exceptional passages of play. The margin between the two sides was 16 points at half time, every time that Hobart looked like they could break away Sorell fought back and drew level in the last quarter. Our boys fought it right out and eventually were victors by 13 points. Goal kickers S Reeves 4, C Leek, M Woods, L Sullivan, M Beck , T Webb. Best Players were J Young, T Dennis, S Bradford, D Huxley, M Beck, A Addicoat.
Volunteer of the week. This gentleman has only been with us for 18 months but has excelled during this time. We are talking about Kyle Sarne. Who you might ask? Kyle heard our call for help last year as we recruited players and while he hadn’t kicked a football since grade 6 he turned up, trained and gave his all to assist. Kyle played a few games in the Reserves last year, but his skills in other areas was soon recognised and he ran water, assisted with match management and in any area that we asked. This year Kyle has taken over match management of the seconds and in his spare time written an iOS stats application to assist our coaching staff. Joshua Munting and Kyle complete these statistics for the Seniors and Reserves each week giving coaches up to date information at each break. Kyle is highly representative of all the volunteers that we depend on each week!
