What a huge day Good Friday was for the Hobart Football Club, such an amazing turnaround for the senior side, coming down from 52 points down to beat last year’s grand finalists. That will give our players and supporters confidence that we’re never out of the game. The Reserves were impressive and our under 19s showed some really positive signs against a quality opposition in Southern Storm.
I’d really like to take the opportunity to thank all the volunteers who made our first home game happen, with a bumper crowd, some great footy and beautiful weather at the picturesque TCA Ground we couldn’t have asked for a better day.
The efforts of our volunteers shouldn’t go without recognition. To those who worked the bar, or the canteen, did the time keeping or helped with match management through to water carriers and the like thank you. A big shout out to Rotary Hobart for their efforts on the gate and to our new canteen manager Tracy. This Football Club wouldn’t survive without great volunteers like all of you.
Pictured with Will Coats from Rotary Hobart, thanks for their valuable assistance on the gate this week!
To anyone reading this who can I’d really encourage you to volunteer and offer us an hour or two, to pour a beer, work in the canteen or otherwise with player teas after training etc. We hope you all had a safe and happy Easter, we will see you all at Abbotsfield (Seniors/Reserves) and or Sorell (u19s) tomorrow. Or even at our first Masters game on Sunday! Eat em alive you Tigers
On another exciting note, how good was it to have Under 19s back?!

From The Coach
Saturday was a great day for our senior team as we came back from an 8 goal quarter time margin to win the game by 8 points. Full credit to Cygnet as I thought they came out and played some real quick footy and put us on the back foot at times.
We viewed the tape on Tuesday night and I actually thought our effort and endeavour was good, we just made some basic errors that resulted in 5-6 of the Port’s opening goals. We didn’t panic at quarter time, we showed the stats and spoke about some basics that we needed to correct and to the boys credit they out played Cygnet in the last three quarters. Our 3rd quarter was sensational; as we changed a number of things around at half time in particular the way we were entering the footy in the front half. We remained disciplined and our back half was strong and professional the way they were setting up behind the footy. Overall just a fantastic way to start the season and a great reward for the pre season that the boys completed… we knew our fitness base would bring us back into it and it certainly did!
Kobey Phillips was best on ground racking up 35+ touches. Jayden Charlton and Brad Joseph lead from the front and stood up in the 2nd half when the game was on the line. Sam Reeves was a brick wall in defence while Brodie Johnstone was fantastic up forward in his first game for the footy club. We have had a solid week on the track and will continue to lift our workload over the next 3-4 weeks before we taper off slightly. We look forward to the challenge of playing away this week at Abbotsfield Park which has always been a tough road trip.
We realise that Claremont have lost a lot of players in the off season but we won’t be taking them lightly and we will be looking to improve in all areas of our game
