2021 Best & Fairest Count

Juniors Report

Our Juniors finished the season with a mixture of sadness, emptiness and relief!    We look forward to celebrating their season in a couple of week’s time.

Our club hosted four STJFL finals recently.  Sincere thanks to the parents who helped in the canteen, with special thanks to Bronwen Colhoun for her commitment and contribution.

The STJFL Awards/Best and Fairest evening was held earlier in the week.  We congratulate our club’s nominations for the awards: –  Colin Shugg (boys coach of the year), Diana Kwong (girls coach), Dwayne Cosker (volunteer) and Andrew Fletcher (umpire).     We are very proud of Andrew who was announced as the League’s Volunteer Umpire of the year.   As well as umpiring his daughter’s U9 games, Andrew also umpired the U10, U11 and U11 girls games at various times throughout the season.   Andrew’s fair and consistent umpiring together with his communication  skills have impressed our parents, opposition teams and STJFL officials, so we did not hesitate to say we have not seen a better one yet!

Our club was equally proud of Russell Cripps being presented with Life Membership of the STJFL.   Russell’s involvement in junior football has spanned over a couple of decades. Russell was recognised with life membership of the Hobart Football Club in 2020 and to be frank we would be lost without him and his wife Janet’s contribution to the club. We are immensely proud of his contribution to our club and junior football more broadly, and it is a deserving recognition for Russell’s contributions. Russell regularly gives up his Tuesday and Thursday evenings, as well as his Saturdays and Sundays to support the HFC.

Justin Harvey 350th

Once again we were incredibly proud of club legend Justin “Banger” Harvey on reaching his 350th match with the Hobart Football Club, and provided him with a special presentation of the famous number 28 jumper after the match. Below is President Josh Munting photographed with Justin “Banger” Harvey after making the presentation. Surely that’s going straight to the pool room! A big thanks also to ABC Radio Hobart for their coverage and interview with Banger!

Below is a link to the pre-game speeches to commemorate the important occasion from John Mathers and Josh Munting
