A Great Tradition – Cananore/Hobart Football Clubs

As part of the club’s theme for 2022, the Hobart Football Club is looking to celebrate and build on “A Great Tradition” that is our club’s history.

We really want to celebrate the club’s proud history dating back to 1901.

That is why last Saturday 23 July we proudly wore our ‘Cananore’ heritage strip in our Southern Football League match against the Cygnet Football Club.

Struggling for numbers in the Reserves on Saturday with illness and season ending injuries leaving around 20 guys unavailable. We were down to 15 available.

Enter the Hobart Masters with five players stepping up to play Reserves footy for the mighty Tigers. What a fantastic gesture by each of them.

Our Condolences

Over the last month, the Hobart Football Club has lost two Old Players from two of our Outstanding Football Families.

The Name of Bailey and Leitch stand out through the ages and it is with a heavy heart we wish to advise our Members of there Passing.

Vivian ( Viv ) Bailey played 42 Games for the HFC between 1946 and 1949 and was brother of Harold (1950 Premiership Player and first to play 100 Games for HFC ), Bruce & Kevin ( Kevin played 163 games and two Premierships).

Graeme Leitch also played 42 Games for the HFC between 1958 and 1961, and was brother of Peter ( 146 Games and two Premierships) John (114 Games and One Premiership) and Bill (81 Games and 2 Premierships) who were all great contributors to the Hobart Football Club.

The coveted William Leitch Medal  was named after their Grandfather. What a record for the Hobart Football Club.

RIP.

Further condolences

Sadly just before this went to “print” another two Old Players have passed away recently.

Geoff Wighton…. Geoff had a short stay at the Tigers due to injury, but managed 20 Games as a ruckman between 1959 and 1962 after coming down from Tunnack.

Colin Pitt….. Colin was Son of Ron Pitt ( Secretary & President of the Club during our Golden Years of the Sixties)  Colin played 29 games. Colin’s sister Helen was married to Glenorchy champ Barry Strange.

RIP to four valued members of the HFC family.
