Russell Young – Outgoing SFL President
Well done to our own Russell Young on a fantastic job as the SFL President from 2020-2022, after “retiring” from your role at the HFC.
You have really steadied and built the SFL’s finances, sponsorship, brand and significantly increased the cooperation between clubs at Board Level. In addition you’ve picked up the pieces of the collapsed TSLW competition and done a fantastic job in doing so. The SFL has been lucky to have you at the helm.
Peter Ratcliffe
The Hobart Football Club has lost one of its Greats overnight.
Peter Ratcliffe who played 260 games for the Club and was a member of the 1966 and 1973 Premierships passed away overnight. Peter played in John Watts 1966 side and was vice Captain in our 1973 Triumph. Peter was our last Captain of Macalburn our under 19 side in the State School Old Boys Association. 1963. This was later known as our HFC Under 19 Team of which the Tradition continued with Peterβs Son , Simon being Captain.
Peter was a true Clubman who served as Secretary and on Board for many years.
Peter had been battling ill health for some time.
Our Sincere Sympathy to Helen and family for their sad loss.
Angus Adams
On behalf of the Hobart Football Club we pass on our condolences to Colleen and family on the recent passing of Angus Adams.
Angus was a massive contributor to footy, including at the Hobart Football Club.
Angus was involved with Football for over 60 years from playing to umpiring to volunteering at club and State level in various capacities.
He along with Trevor Best and Ian R Parker set up Superules in Tasmania and the three of them were highly regarded at National Level. The concept remains a part footy fabric in Tassie to this day.
Angus’s many years with Superules saw him oversee with the help of many others 2 National Carnivals in 1992 and 2000.
Angus was renowned for his commitment to the cause but reluctance to share the workload sometimes It was never anything other than to get the job done for the good of everyone.
For his efforts he was awarderd:
- Life Member Southern Primary Junior Football
- Life Member Tasmanian Superules 1992
- Life Member Superules Australia 1999
- Superules Hall of Fame 1999.
His last role was as CEO of the SFL which was a challenging position but he did it the only way he knows. “HAVING A CRACK”.
Rest in Peace Angus, and thank you for over 60 years contribution to this great game.
