A year of growth and a year of consolidation – but not a year wasted.
There are too many volunteers, supporters and members that deserve extraordinary recognition. Thanks to each of you for restoring some pride in our Football Club throughout the last couple of years.
The appointment of life member and former Captain Dan “Dax” Gray in November as Senior Coach tugged at the heartstrings of Tiger faithful.
After a challenging start to the pre-season numbers grew as we closed in on Christmas and suddenly we had hope.
Numbers grew and we battled hard – getting the Green Light to field Senior and Reserves Men’s Teams in February from the SFL.
The return of sons of former faithful Tigers in Charlie Gray and Dan Richardson was exactly the care and passion we needed for the club.
This followed with the appointment of Scott “Stumpy” Reid as Reserves Coach with Shaun Groves as his trusty assistant. Matthew Ferguson also rejoined the club as Senior Assistant.
Late May saw the addition of our Hobart Masters Women, joining the inaugural competition. Despite not winning a game they were a real highlight for the club, adding important female players, volunteers and fans – a needed boost for the fabric of our club.
The Women’s side were a real fairy tale story – made up of many players new to the game and from different cultures and backgrounds. We were so proud to be featured on a national documentary from the Telstra Footy Country Grants.
Our Men’s masters signed up for the challenge too – battling week in and week out to support our Reserves program.
Despite having to use over 90 registered players we are proud to say we didn’t forfeit a single match. Thanks as always to our Men’s program – we really are lucky to have Coach Ben, Coordinator Rod (Rocket) and all the amazing lads who add to the fabric of our club.
The Senior Tigers showed real maturity and improvement throughout the year – making each of us proud despite some difficult scorelines. Our small number of wins were celebrated accordingly, with significant improvement throughout the year.
We celebrated the small wins, building connections and winning back the respect of the footy community.
Congratulations to Adam Henderson (pictured here with 2024 Captain Ethan Monks) who notched up game number 200 for the club, and will be recognised with life membership of the HFC.
Congratulations once again to club stalwart Justin “Banger” Harvey, who notched up both his 500th Senior Men’s Game and his second Bailey Medal at 46 years young. You are an inspiration to many at our club.
This foundation we have built has allowed us to make one of the most significant appointments in recent history, that of former Cat and Lion Allen “Bundy” Christensen. Bundy will head up the side as playing Senior Coach and our Junior Development Officer.
We are investing in our juniors, as we know it is the only way to make our club both successful and sustainable and we look forward to growing our connection and relationship with our local Primary Schools.
Despite a difficult year, with a dip in our junior numbers we are pleased to welcome our new junior committee who we know will have our junior numbers and program headed in the right direction.
Thanks also to the Tasmanian Government who provided the club with $165,000 to upgrade the TCA Ground Changerooms. Phase 1 of the changeroom upgrades includes improved toilets and showers with the aim to make our facilities both more modern and inviting for female participants.
Thanks as always to our board, including a special thank you to outgoing secretary Bronwen Colhoun who has served the club well over the last five years.
