Congratulations Brock Daniels

We Congratulate our Under 19’s Player Brock Daniels, who took out the SFL’s Lipscombe Medal for the Colts League Best & Fairest.

Due to an error in the count Brock was presented with his award at the SFL Grand Final on Saturday (and is photographed with Colts Coach Tim Luttrell). On behalf of all at the club we congratulate Brock on the well deserved award.

Colts Wrap

The 2019 Colts Team

The Colts didn’t make it through the Preliminary Final hurdle a couple of weeks ago unfortunately, but it was an exciting contest against the Southern Storm. The loss of Tyler Raspin in the first half proved to be a big hurdle for the side.

After the Tigers had a small lead at Quarter Time they couldn’t keep the foot on against a fancied Southern Storm outfit. The Tigers best were Brock Daniels, Kyle Buck, Jye King, Angus Evans, Tom Styles and Mark Cripps. The skill and effort was there on the day, the boys just couldn’t quite get the job done. We’re all very proud of their season and look forward to the future of these young Tigers!

Full Result – U19s Preliminary Final

Hobart 1.2 2.3 2.5 5.5 (35)

Southern Storm 0.2 5.3 8.6 11.8 (74)

Goals: S. Stubbs 2, K. Buck, T. Styles, and M. Cripps.

Best: B. Daniels, K. Buck, J. King, A. Evans, T. Styles, M.Cripps.

This Week’s Footy

Our Under 19s team this week squares off in what shapes as a fierce Preliminary Final against the Southern Storm. This time in the contest we will throw our best 22 at them. Two weeks ago we put in a below-par performance. Unfortunately, we only had 18 players available in our qualifying final loss against them.

Last week against Sorell it was all about responding to the previous week’s performance. In what we knew would be a tough physical contest, our desire to win and get back to playing our brand of footy really shined through. Standout performances on the day were Tyler Raspin playing his best game for the year in the ruck and giving us first use out of the centre, our skipper Shaun Clark was a brick wall in the backline. Meanwhile, Angus Evans and Brock Daniels were dominant around the stoppages. Our semi-final win was a tough finals game where everyone played their role. We’ve had a long injury list so these guys that have been coming back over the last few weeks will only be better for the hit out and this week we will embrace the underdog tag and promise to throw everything at the storm in order to gain a grand final berth.

Eat ‘em alive you Tigers. Thanks to our supporters who made it to Dodges Ferry on the weekend and we encourage you to head along tomorrow to support your football club! Across the board – we’ve had a tough season as a club. We are all extremely proud of our Colts side, well done to the guys on getting this far, and we all firmly believe that you are capable of playing off in the big dance!

See you tomorrow! (Saturday 7 September 2019) – 9.30am at North Hobart Oval

Finals Footy is Here!

It’s that time of the year, footy finals!
Tomorrow shapes to be a big day down at Cygnet for the club.
Unfortunately the Seniors and Womens seasons concluded last weekend, however that’s not the end of our season.

Tomorrow sees the Under 19s (Colts) take on Southern Storm. The underage side is fresh off a solid win over Dodges Ferry. The Qualifiying Final will be a tough contest, a win would see the Tigers progress to the 2nd Semi to play for a spot in the Grand Final. We know the boys can do it, with an upset win over Southern Storm taking place in Round 17.

The Reserves are in for a dog fight in the elimination final against Brighton, with a week off. Their round 15 clash against the Robins saw a Tigers win by 13 points. But the Robins gave us a lesson earlier in the year. Best of luck to both sides, please get along and support the Tigers! ‘Eat em Alive!!!

This Week’s Games:

  • Colts: Southern Storm v Hobart – Qualifying Final (Cygnet) – 10:15am.
  • Reserves: Brighton v Hobart – Elimination Final (Cygnet) – 12:20pm.

Save the Date – 2019 Best & Fairest

Saturday 5th October 2019 – more to come!

Last Week

I’ve already discussed last week’s game from the Colts, which was a great result. Mark Cripps led the goalkickers with three, but with 9 goalkickers it was a great team effort.

The Women had an exciting finish to their season at Boyer Oval taking on the New Norfolk Eagles. The Girls had a slow start but controlled the game for the first three quarters before kicking four goals in the last quarter to get a 41 point win! Fiona Langford was best on ground with three majors.

100 Club

Next Friday Night is our 100 club.
Please contact Scott Quinn to grab your ticket to this exciting event!

See you there!

The Week Gone:

Last weekend was a big one for the footy club with the night of night’s the annual Black & Gold Ball. A turnout of 130 was sensational, with everyone dressed to impress! Again thanks to Debbie Huxley for organising a wonderful evening.

We have way too many stunning photos – so we’ve put them on our Facebook Page here (you can still view without an account).

We had some tough games, the Reserves were a chance against a strong Lindisfarne outfit, missing a few chances early in the game before going on to lose by 31 points. They have the week off this week ahead of an Elimination Final next week, so are still training hard!

The Seniors rounded out their season with a disappointing result, with it being a tough day for all involved. Given the level of injuries and the like throughout the season the Reserves will hopefully be bolstered come finals with senior experience added to a number of our player’s CVs.

In the other match the Women played on the ‘lovely’ Kingston Beach Oval against their namesake the Tigers (who were in their yellow clash strip!). A spirited effort from our girls wasn’t enough going down by 55 points with the game called off slightly early due to injury. The Under 19s had the week off last week, which will hopefully refresh them ahead of finals.

This week sees the Under 19s take on Dodges Ferry Sharks, with all eyes towards finals. Whilst at the same time the Women will take on New Norfolk at Boyer Oval, hoping for their second win of the season!

Eat ’em alive you Tigers.

This week’s games: 17-18 August.

● Womens: New Norfolk v Hobart (Boyer) – 9:00am.
● Colts: Dodges Ferry v Hobart (Shark Park) – 9:30am.
● Reserves: Hobart (Bye)
● Seniors: Hobart (Bye)
● Masters: Pigskin Warriors v Sorell (Richmond Oval) – 12:30pm Sunday.

Tiger Talk

As has been 2019 last week was a mixed bag for the Tigers. The result of the day was probably in the Under 19s with a resilient Tigers outfit leading Southern Storm all day in an early upset over the second-placed side. This is an exciting result with the Colts in third and a possibility to take on Storm again in the finals. The Reserves kept that momentum up rolling Cygnet in the twos. before what was a disappointing result for our Seniors. Of course the women closed out the day’s festivities and they were always up against it with only 15 players, but they showed their usual fight.

Tomorrow (Saturday 10 August) sees the Senior’s last game of the Season, taking on Lindisfarne who are always a tough opponent. The Reserves and Under 19s will have the chance to test themselves against the Two Blues. At a different venue the Women will take on Kingborough at 9.30am (at Kingston Beach), best of luck to all our sides! Whilst, the Under 19s have the Bye. The appointment of our next Senior Coach is still an ongoing process, but I will, of course, take the chance on behalf of the club to thank Nathan Hartnett for stepping up in the role of Interim Coach for the second half of the season.

Next week sees a Senior & Reserves Bye with the Under 19s taking on Dodges Ferry at 9.30am and the Women up against New Norfolk at Boyer for their final game of the season. Our Reserves and Under 19s will be hoping to go deep into finals after the roster season concludes.

Tomorrow Night sees the club’s annual Black & Gold Ball. We hope you’ve got your best suits, or for the ladies perhaps a nice dress organised for the night. If not, you’d better hurry!

As far as logistics, please arrive at the Black & Gold Ball at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. We will be upstairs in the Derwent Room. We look forward to seeing you there for a great evening! A big thanks to Debbie and others for organising!

Detailed Results

Great result for our Reserves with a hard-fought 13-point victory over fourth placed Brighton at Pontville last week.
After going into half time 13 points ahead in a low scoring contest, the Robins hit back to level scores at the final change.
A 3.3 to 1.2 final quarter effort saw the Tigers run out 7.11 (53) to 5.10 (40) winners to remain in fifth spot, three games clear of both Claremont and New Norfolk and equal on wins with Brighton (who have a game in hand) but with inferior percentage.
Austin Bidgood was best on ground for Hobart, Lachy Plummer booted two goals on his return.
This week the Tigers face eighth-placed Cygnet at the TCA Ground to lock in a finals spot.

At New Town on Sunday our Womens team fought it out with a North Hobart side desperately needing a win to sneak into the five.
North’s Kelli Humphries was the main difference booting six of the Demons nine goals of the match.
After trailing by 54 points at the final change, the girls continued to fight the match out and outscored North in the final quarter, going down 1.1 (7) to 9.6 (60)
Holly Alexander booted her first goal for the Tigers while Molly Browning was best on ground for Hobart.
The Tigers face The Port (Cygnet) at the TCA at 4:30pm under lights in our final home match for the season.
