From the President

Hi everyone, hope things are going well for you. I can’t believe it’s late February already, only feels like yesterday that I was wishing everyone a happy Christmas and safe New Year. I had a great, relaxing time away and I must admit it took me a while to get back into the swing of work and footy when I got back but here we are.

Here we are indeed. Round 1 is only 5 weeks away and we are gearing up nicely for an eventful season.

It has been a big post-Christmas for the players in terms of training. Alex and the coaches have been building things up, starting with an intra-club match which was very competitive and gave the guys a good hit-out, then there was  the triathlon down at beautiful Cremorne. This was certainly a test of endurance with 11 teams battling it out for supremacy. It was fantastic to see all the players getting involved and hanging around for a BBQ and a few drinks afterwards. In the coming weeks leading up to round 1 there are two more practice matches one against DOSA and the other in Launceston against St. Pats. I am looking forward to see how far the guys have come since pre-season started all those months ago. There is a great feeling around the coaching and playing groups and I can’t wait to get going.

The women’s side have been building nicely also. It seems that every time I turn up at training there is a new player or two wanting to have a game and this is great for our club and especially the team. Renee has been putting them through their paces and it’s great to see the skills and fitness improving. The girls will also be having a practice match against The Port down at Kermandie on the 21st of March. So it would be a nice day out, go for a drive have lunch somewhere and then watch some footy (I probably have the times messed up and you may have to have lunch after the footy, but you know what I mean) If you know anyone out there who would like to have a kick and wants to play then please get in touch via the club’s social media and we can help them out. Also if there is someone out there who would like to help the board out with running the Women’s program from a board perspective then please let me know. We are certainly looking to grow our girls/women’s side of the club. Let’s get along and support the girls during the year.

The board have also been working hard in getting things ready for the season ahead. Obviously it’s not as easy to bring to life as the players are, we don’t have practice matches nor do we have a team in triathlon but we are always there in some capacity. It’s those little things (or not so little) in the background that keep us busy. We are well into the player transfer season so Scott is leading that. Celine and Josh are busy with getting the finances and other correspondence up to order. Tom has been working hard getting a handle on the sponsorship and marketing portfolio, Tim, other than training is also helping with a bit of sponsorship and player welfare, this year Michael Gozzi has come on board as the rep for the Master Rules team but is also taking a big interest in the whole club which is great to see, Russell is also working hard in getting our juniors up and running among other things.

A few things we have implemented so far include new membership packages and player sponsor deals. This year we wanted to make membership a priority so we held a players membership drive last Tuesday Night (18 Feb) where we got both men’s and women’s sides in the Den and asked them to ring three people to sign up as members. After a few false starts, it was on for young and old. We had a target of 100 members for the night and by the time we left we had reached that with 101 members! This is not the end of it. If we didn’t get to you last week you definitely haven’t missed out. Once again hit up the website or social media and you can answer the call. Look out for an exciting venture to hit the Tiger world in March. It’s going to be huge.

Last year wasn’t great for the club as far as off field events went, with a few cancellations and not a lot of attendance from the playing group we needed to work out a way around this. So in early Feb most of the board and a few other interested people spent a few hours on a Sunday working through a calendar of events. We have learnt from last year that we needed to give as much notice as possible and I think we have covered that this year. Check out the calendar on the web site. The President’s lunch is making a return with a massive special guest lined up so get that date in your calendar and then for our last home game of the year the ladies are taking over, we will have more news on that the closer we get. If you want to be involved in helping to organising any of the events we have put up or have an idea for an event then please see any of the board and we can help you out.

You may have noticed that I have said a few times that if you want to help then please let us know. Well this time I am really calling out for some help. We are looking for volunteers to run/help in the canteen. It’s obviously one of our most important money makers and we really want someone to take on the management of this (with the help of other volunteers). If you are keen or know someone who might be keen to take it on. Please let me know and get them to get in touch with me. This is a big call out so please have a think…

Well if you aren’t up to date now you never will be.Remember get your membership and have a think about how you may be able to help out in some other way.

Cheers

Callam

Tiger Triathlon

Hobart F.C Triathlon done and dusted. Boys were fantastic. Gruelling little session but everyone approached it with a strong mindset. Teams of 3 were randomly picked out of a hat a few weeks ago and each player was required to complete 1 of the 3 legs:

Bike – 19.5km
Run – 8.5km
Swim & Run – 1km of each

Congratulations to team “The Bears” who were the winners on the day

Runners Up – Milk Hunters

Best dressed – TRY Athletes

Fantastic day completed for the club and thanks to the board led by Callum and Scott for organising food, drinks and prizes and also to my coaching staff for there organisation and preparation leading into it all. Mia Gilmour did superb on the camera
