A Great Tradition – Cananore/Hobart Football Clubs

As part of the club’s theme for 2022, the Hobart Football Club is looking to celebrate and build on “A Great Tradition” that is our club’s history.

We really want to celebrate the club’s proud history dating back to 1901.

That is why last Saturday 23 July we proudly wore our ‘Cananore’ heritage strip in our Southern Football League match against the Cygnet Football Club.

Our Condolences

Over the last month, the Hobart Football Club has lost two Old Players from two of our Outstanding Football Families.

The Name of Bailey and Leitch stand out through the ages and it is with a heavy heart we wish to advise our Members of there Passing.

Vivian ( Viv ) Bailey played 42 Games for the HFC between 1946 and 1949 and was brother of Harold (1950 Premiership Player and first to play 100 Games for HFC ), Bruce & Kevin ( Kevin played 163 games and two Premierships).

Graeme Leitch also played 42 Games for the HFC between 1958 and 1961, and was brother of Peter ( 146 Games and two Premierships) John (114 Games and One Premiership) and Bill (81 Games and 2 Premierships) who were all great contributors to the Hobart Football Club.

The coveted William Leitch Medal  was named after their Grandfather. What a record for the Hobart Football Club.

RIP.

Further condolences

Sadly just before this went to “print” another two Old Players have passed away recently.

Geoff Wighton…. Geoff had a short stay at the Tigers due to injury, but managed 20 Games as a ruckman between 1959 and 1962 after coming down from Tunnack.

Colin Pitt….. Colin was Son of Ron Pitt ( Secretary & President of the Club during our Golden Years of the Sixties)  Colin played 29 games. Colin’s sister Helen was married to Glenorchy champ Barry Strange.

RIP to four valued members of the HFC family.

Our Condolences

We offer our sincere condolences to Hobart Football Club family members, Debbie & Sam Atwell and their families following the passing of their beloved mother Betty Atwell. We are aware of their dedication to allow their Mum to be nursed at home until she passed away.
The Atwell name is well known at our club from way back in the Macalburn days. Debbie and Sam continue the family history at the club, and true supporters to this day.

Congratulations Mr Cripps

Tiger Talk – Stay at Home Edition

From the President’s Desk

Hi everyone,

I don’t usually like to keep bombarding you with my rubbish but I feel at this time it’s important to stay in touch and keep contact with those around us.

The Hobart Football Club is a family club so I am playing the annoying family member hassling you for now.

Things have definitely changed since the last time I sent a message out. Obviously football hasn’t started up and in fact there’s nothing going on at all. It still seems a bit otherworldly that we won’t be playing in a fortnight. Now the AFL being postponed….

This message is more about looking out for each other than it is about updating you on any football matters; my update is that there is no update. It’s pretty tough out there for a lot of people connected to the club but I want you all to know that we are here for you. If we can help in any small way then let us know (obviously as long as we can stand 1.5 metres away from each other, there’s less than 10 of us, you supply hand sanitiser and you don’t have a cough).

When (I’m staying positive) we get up and running for the 2020 season the club will need all the support you can give. I wish to thank our sponsors who are on board and I hope they aren’t doing it too tough. Once again we will need to support them once this craziness has subsided.  Members and supporters – please keep safe and healthy because we will need you in the stands once we kick off. If you haven’t bought your membership then why not do it now. Might keep you busy for a while if you are self-isolating.

Speaking of self-isolating, if you are looking for something to do you may like to read up on the AFL’s news on COVID-19. We have a link on our website that will take you to all the FAQs around this.  This will be updated by the AFL and keep you all informed.

Anyway that’s enough from this annoying member. But please reach out if you need to talk, send us message or something but take care.

Look after yourselves and stay healthy.

Cheers

Callam
