For those from interstate who return to the home of many happy memories, the TCA Ground will be hosting the club’s annual President’s Luncheon where the club welcomes many past players and sponsors. This year we have former Hobart Tigers/Sydney Swans pair Mark Browning (1990 Premiership Coach of Hobart) and Tony Morewood. Welcome to both guys and everyone returning to their Football Club on Saturday!

A big thanks also to the Telstra Store Cat & Fiddle for supporting the President’s Luncheon.

This week we honour returning player Justin (Banger) Harvey who has played 300 games for HFC. Justin’s parents and his two brothers Matthew and Trent are all long serving (and much valued) members of HFC but today we talk about Justin. This Saturday we will celebrate the big milestone with game 301 taking place at the TCA Ground.

We will continue to call Justin, Banger as that is what he is known as.

Banger started playing football as a six year old with Lindisfarne U8’s & continued to play with Lindisfarne until U16’s in 1993 He played in six Premierships in that time & won Best & Fairest  Awards. He played in the South East U16 representative team. He continued to play school football & Captained St Virgils premiership team in 1993

Banger was a member of the inaugural Mariners squad in 1995 playing 3 games that year

We are thankful to Banger’s Mum Sue that Banger started playing for HFC in 1994. His Dad Brian had played for Glenorchy. Banger played in the U19’s as a 16 year old as well as playing for Guilford Young  & went on to play his first seniors game in the last round of 1995 kicking two goals. He continued playing & co-captained the seniors from 1999 – 2002 which included the 1999 Premiership. He won two Reserves Best & Fairest Awards.

After breaking the HFC Games record of 288 games he made the decision to leave HFC & go to play DOSA.

Banger continued to play at DOSA winning the Best & Fairest in his first year. At the end of 2017 and after 119 games Banger took the decision to return to HFC. His experience, skills and endurance is very welcome to our coaches with so many young players coming through.

The Hobart Football Club is indebted to Banger for his service to our club and wish him well in his final seasons of football and his future with his beautiful wife Alex and gorgeous daughter Freya.

Where would we be without volunteers?

On days like Saturday we find lots of our older players returning for the Presidents Lunch. What we hear when they  go to the canteen, the bar, the changerooms, the player support crew etc is “Are You Still Here?”

Well the fact is 80% of our current volunteers are “still here” Over 28 volunteers have never had or do not have anyone playing. They just love the club!  A lot are getting older & are concerned for the future if we don’t get parents & followers to put their hand up

We are issuing an invitation to all current & former members, parents & followers to contact the club to offer your assistance It doesn’t have to be a huge amount of time. An hour or two will make all the difference. Contact membership@hobartfc.com.au or 0458 015 332

It’s definitely not too late to grab your membership, Maralyn and Josh Munting will be at the game on Saturday and the Den after training tonight for those interested in signing up. Otherwise please feel free to give Maralyn (0490 818 798) or Josh (0458 015 332) a call to arrange.
